A Stitch Toward Stability: Ghausia’s Journey to Financial Independence

A few years ago, Anjum’s family relocated to Delhi with hopes of building a better future. Like many migrant families, they came with determination but limited resources. Anjum’s husband found work as a driver, but supporting a family of five on a single income proved to be a constant struggle. Meeting daily household needs, paying school fees, and managing basic expenses often felt overwhelming.

Recognizing the growing financial pressure on the family, Ghausia decided she could not remain a silent spectator. Determined to contribute, she began a small home-based business selling ladies’ clothing within her community. Starting with a modest collection of garments, she slowly built trust among neighbors and local customers. Even in the early days, her efforts helped bring in ₹5,000–₹6,000 per month, offering some relief to the family’s tight budget.

However, Ghausia knew that to truly strengthen her family’s financial situation, she needed to expand her business. With this aspiration in mind, she approached MASAWAT Livelihood Foundation for financial support.

With the assistance she received, Ghausia was able to increase her inventory and offer a wider variety of clothing to her customers. The expanded stock attracted more buyers, and her small home business gradually transformed into a steady source of income. Today, Ghausia earns ₹15,000–₹20,000 per month, a remarkable improvement from where she started.

This progress has brought meaningful changes to the family’s life. With her earnings, Ghausia has been able to regularly pay her children’s school fees and ensure that the household runs with greater stability and dignity.

Life feels more secure now,” she says with a smile. “We’re finally able to breathe a little easier.

Her journey is also a testament to her discipline and determination. By March 2025, Ghausia proudly completed all her loan installments, marking an important milestone in her entrepreneurial journey.

Today, she looks ahead with renewed confidence and a desire to give back. Inspired by the support she received, Ghausia hopes to encourage and guide other women in her community who dream of starting their own businesses and building a better future for their families.

Her story is not just about income—it is about resilience, opportunity, and the power of a woman determined to transform her family’s future.
